2007 Outlook: After missing all of the 2006 season because of an injury, left-hander Wes Simmons is healthy and ready to make a contribution to the Husker staff this spring ? Continues NU’s trend of pulling players from Oklahoma, joining former Husker standouts Jeff Blevins and Steve Hale ?  Was a two-time all-state selection who went 9-1 with a 0.17 ERA at Tulsa (Okla.) Lincoln Christian as a senior in 2005 ? Is a hard-throwing left-hander who reaches the upper 80s with four pitches ? Working on being more consistent around the zone after a long layoff, but has progressed enough to push for a spot as a possible set-up man from the left side.

Tulsa Lincoln Christian High School: Was one of the state’s top pitchers while leading Tulsa Lincoln Christian and Coach Pat Foster to a trio of state championships ? Was a two-time first-team all-state honoree and was the winning pitcher three straight state title games ? Turned in a dominant effort during his senior season, posting a 9-1 record and a 0.17 ERA in 2005 ? Allowed one earned run, struck out 105 and walked 11 in 48 innings in helping LCHS to a 29-4 record and the school’s third consecutive Oklahoma Christian Schools Athletic Association championship ? Threw three no-hitters, including a perfect game as a senior ? Earned the victory in all three state championship games during his prep career ? Selected Nebraska over Oral Roberts and Eastern Oklahoma State.
