2006 Season: Dick Howser Trophy and Wallace Award semifinalist who earned second-team All-America and first-team All-Big 12 honors • Hit .348 with 15 homers and 48 RBIs, ranking among the Big 12 leaders in homers (second), slugging percentage (.643, second) and total bases (133, eighth) • Led NU with a .350 average in two-out situations and is second on the team with 17 two-out RBIs • Reached safely via a hit, walk or HBP in 52 of 56 contest during the regular season • Went hitless in six at-bats at the Big 12 Championship, missing the title game because of back spasms and was reduced to a pinch-hitting role because of the injury at the NCAA Regional • Hit .373 with six homers and 24 RBIs in conference play, ranking among the league leaders in eight offensive categories; slugging percentage (.637, second); doubles (nine, third); total bases (65, third), RBIs (fourth); batting average (fifth), homers (fifth) and on-base percentage (.445, sixth) • Hit .300 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored in the series loss to No. 13 Oklahoma, including a 2-for-3 effort with two doubles on May 20 • Had the longest hitting streak in the Big 12 this season with a 19-game streak from March 26 to April 23 where he hit .402 with five homers and 20 RBIs • Hit .500 (6-for-12) with a homer and three RBIs at No. 24 Oklahoma State, including a 3-for-5 effort with his first homer since April 9 in the finale • Saw his 19-game hit streak snapped against Wichita State on April 25, going 0-for-2 with three walks and two stolen bases in an 11-0 win over the Shockers • Sparked NU’s series win at No. 5 Texas, hitting .429 (6-for-14) with two runs scored, including a 3-for-5 effort in the series finale • Was 4-for-11 with two doubles against Texas A&M • Hit .467 (7-for-15) in a series sweep at Missouri with two homers, eight RBIs and five runs scored, as he had game-winning hits in the first two games of the series  • Was 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs in a 6-3 win at Missouri on April 7  • Had two hits, including a game-winning double in the 13th, on April 8 before going 2-for-5 with a three-run homer in the finale  • Was 3-for-3 and scored twice in NU’s 6-4 win over No. 21 Creighton on April 4 • Hit .417 (5-for-12) in a series win at Kansas State, including a 2-for-4 effort with two homers and four RBIs in the finale for his first career multi-homer game • Opened the season with a 12-game hit streak, including a span where he blasted seven homers in nine games • Was 4-for-12 against Kansas, highlighted by a 3-for-4 effort with a grand slam in the series opener on March 25, the first grand slam by a Husker since the 2004 campaign • Hit .300 (3-for-10) against Alabama with two homers and three RBIs, including a 2-for-4 effort with a homer and two runs scored in a 5-1 win on March 11 • Was named MVP of the Dairy Queen Classic, hitting .500 (6-for-12) with two homers, four RBIs and five runs scored in three games • Became the first Husker to hit for the cycle since 1995 against Notre Dame on March 3 going 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored • Was 2-for-3 with three walks and a stolen base in NU’s season-opening win over Charleston Southern on Feb. 16 • Had two hits, including a two-run homer with one out in the ninth, to help NU rally for a 5-4, 12-inning win over Richmond on Feb. 18.

Garden City CC/Thomas Jefferson High School: Gorsett was one of the nation’s top junior college sluggers playing for coach Rich Sabbath at Garden City (Kan.) CC • Received first-team NJCAA All-America honors in 2005, batting .402 with 24 homers, 71 RBIs and 12 stolen bases • Led the nation in homers and was tied for 11th in RBIs, as he also slugged .800 • Earned regional and conference player-of-the-year accolades in leading Garden City to a 42-16 record and a Jayhawk Conference title in 2005 • Was a two-year starter at Garden City CC, hitting .314 with 15 homers, 11 doubles, 50 RBIs and a .616 slugging percentage in 2004 • Played his high school ball for Coach Tory Humphrey at Thomas Jefferson High School in Denver • Garnered first-team All-Colorado and Class 4A Player-of-the-Year honors as a two-way performer, batting .490 with 12 homers and 41 RBIs and going 8-1 with a 3.40 ERA on the mound during his senior campaign • Looked at Northern Colorado, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas before selecting Nebraska.
