Ken Ramos, a transfer from Otero Junior College, played three seasons for the Huskers from 1987 to 1989. In his first season at Nebraska, Ramos led the team in batting average (.386), triples (six), and stolen bases (nine). He added 46 RBIs, four home runs and a 28-game hit streak to earn him honorable mention All-Big Eight honors.
During his junior year, Ramos continued his stellar performance at the plate. He scored 100 runs on the season, which was tops in the nation and currently ranks him first in school history for a single season. Ramos ranked first in the Big Eight with 96 hits, while leading the Huskers in batting average (.372), doubles (19), stolen bases (34) and sacrifices (13). Ramos added 62 RBIs and 68 walks to his season stats. In the Rainbow Easter Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii, Ramos batted .400 with 14 runs scored and 11 walks, which was good enough to earn him All-Tournament team honors and name him the Most Outstanding Player (position). Ramos also earned first-team All-Big Eight honors for the season.
In his senior season with the Huskers, Ramos again was the team's best hitter, leading the team with a .355 batting average, 72 hits and 62 runs scored, while also leading the conference with 46 stolen bases. He was named to the All-Big Eight second team to wrap up his final season. Ramos finished his career with a .370 batting average and 204 runs scored, both ranking him first in school history at the time.
Ramos played one season in the Major Leagues, joining the Houston Astros in 1997. He played in 12 games, drew two walks and drove in one run. He went hitless in 14 career plate appearances.
