Ryan Bohanan

2006: After serving as a key component of the Huskers’ College World Series team as a freshman, Ryan Bohanan missed the entire 2006 campaign after off-season shoulder surgery in December • Was orignally penciled in as the Huskers’ starter at third, replacing 2005 National Player-of-the-Year Alex Gordon, along with his duties on the mound in relief.

 

2005: Bohanan played a major role with both his bat and arm to help Nebraska to a sweep of the Big 12 titles and a College World Series appearance as a true freshman • Served as NU’s starting designated hitter down the stretch after serving as one of the Huskers’ top set-up men in the bullpen • Was NU’s first true two-way player since Alvie Shepherd in the mid 1990s • Went 1-1 with a save and a 2.79 ERA in 21 outings • Led the Husker bullpen with five holds and was second with 21 appearances • Appeared in 28 games as a hitter, batting .311 with a homer and 14 RBIs • Accounted for most of his offensive production in the postseason, hitting .333 in 14 contests with a homer and nine RBIs • Was 2-for-9 with two runs scored in the College World Series, while also tossing 0.2 innings of shutout relief against Florida on June 19 • Did not pitch in the Super Regional, but went 2-for-8 with a homer and three RBIs • Enjoyed his best offensive day of the season in the Super Regional clincher against No. 13 Miami on June 11, going 2-for-5 with a homer and a career-high three RBIs • Saw double duty in the NCAA Lincoln Regional, hitting .400 (4-for-10) with five RBIs, while also making two relief appearances • Appeared in all six Big 12 Tournament games, batting .400 (6-for-15) while also tossing one inning of relief against No. 17 Missouri on May 28 • Recorded his first career three-hit game against Missouri on May 28, and a pinch-hit double against Texas Tech on May 25 • Had just eight at-bats all season until coming off the bench to deliver a ninth-inning RBI single at Texas Tech on May 15 • Picked up another pinch-hit two-run single against Northern Illinois before making his first start at DH the following day, going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI, while pitching a scoreless inning of relief against the Huskies • Was superb out of the bullpen, allowing one earned run in his first 13 outings, including a stretch of 19.2 scoreless innings from Feb. 18 to May 10 • Earned his first collegiate win in a start against North Dakota State on April 13, allowing one hit and striking out two over a pre-determined three innings • Suffered the loss against Creighton at Rosenblatt Stadium on May 10, allowing two runs on two hits over a career-high 3.1 innings of work • Fired two innings of no-hit relief against No. 17 Missouri on May 8, a game that eventually went 11 innings before NU won 6-5 • Enjoyed a successful homecoming at Wichita State, retiring all three hitters he faced, including a strikeout, in NU’s 4-2 win over the Shockers on April 27 • Went a career-long 3.1 innings against No. 8 Baylor, striking out a pair and holding the Bears off the scoreboard in a 4-1 Husker loss on April 23 • Picked up a save against Hawaii-Hilo on Feb. 18, fanning four in three innings of work.

 

Goddard High School: Bohanan was a four-time all-state selection for Coach Jim Foltz at Goddard (Kan.) High School • Rated the No. 51 prospect nationally by Team One Baseball and was a Louisville Slugger/TPX Preseason All-American before his senior year • Was selected to the 2004 ABCA & Rawlings High School All-Region team • Led Goddard High School to a 23-2 record and a Class 6A state title in 2004, going 4-0 with a 1.82 ERA, striking out 47 in 34.2 innings • Also hit .556 with a homer and 10 RBIs in just 45 at-bats • Played for Coach Mark Standiford and the Wichita Sluggers during the summer, winning the NBC World Series (17-and-younger) • Won the USSSA World Series title in the 16-year-old division in 2002 and was selected to the all-tournament team • Played in the Area Code Games and was on the all-tournament team in the World Wooden Bat World Series in 2003 • Earned first-team all-state accolades as a utility player in 2003, batting .451 with a homer and 22 RBIs, while going 3-1 with a 2.60 ERA on the mound as the team was ranked as high as 23rd nationally before placing third at the state tournament  • Hit .534, including a 23-game hitting streak, with four homers, 22 RBIs and 29 runs scored as a sophomore, while compiling a 5-2 record with a 1.43 ERA, fanning 60 in 46 innings • Also looked at Wichita State and Arkansas before choosing Nebraska.
