2005: Deric Manrique (pronounced MAN-ree-kee) redshirted his only year at Nebraska before transferring to Northern Iowa.

 

Sioux City North High School: Manrique was one of Iowa’s top multi-sport performers at Sioux City North High School • Earned first-team All-Iowa honors in each of his final three seasons for Coach Brian Atchison • Set the Iowa high school record for career stolen bases with 184, breaking the previous mark of 181 by Mark Milder from 1991 to 1995 • Earned all-conference recognition all four years on the diamond, hitting .439 with over 200 hits while setting school marks for stolen bases, runs scored (189), triples (12) and walks (70) • Was a first-team Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Super Team selection (all-class team) as a senior, batting .436 with four homers, 41 RBIs, 45 runs scored and 46 stolen bases, helping his team to a 37-6 record and a state tourney appearance • Established a state single-season record with 62 stolen bases in 65 attempts as a junior, while hitting .496 with 58 runs scored and an on-base percentage of .673 • Totaled 14 letters across four sports during high school, with four each in baseball and track and three each in football and basketball • Earned second-team all-state honors in football, catching 37 passes for 550 yards and 16 total touchdowns (six via reception, three via rush and five returns) • Played point guard in basketball, earning first-team all-conference honors while leading his team to the state quarterfinals • Placed third in the state in the long jump in track as a junior while setting a school record with a leap of 22-8 1/2 • Was a member of the honor roll at Sioux City North • Chose NU after looking at Northern Iowa, Michigan and North Dakota State among others.
