Huskers Knock Off No. 18 Tar Heels, Fall to Nittany Lions in Regular Season Finale

The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team notched a 195.600 on Friday in a tri-meet at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, N.C.

No. 19 Penn State had the highest mark with a 196.875, while No. 18 UNC finished with a 194.550. That marks the second Top-20 victory by Nebraska this season. 

The Huskers moved to 7-8 on the season (3-6 Big Ten). Isabel Sikon took second in the all-around for Nebraska with a 39.075.

Rotation One
Behind a 9.925 from Whitney Jencks to tie her career high, Nebraska kicked off the evening scoring a 49.300 on bars. Nya Kraus (9.875) and Tegan Shaver (9.850) followed for NU, marking a career high for Shaver. Sikon and Molly Peterson both earned a 9.825 to complete the lineup.

Rotation Two
Nebraska continued the night with a 48.650 on beam. Kraus (9.850) and Sikon (9.825) led the way, tying a season high for Sikon. Homecillo (9.775), Jencks (9.725) and Karys Griffin (9.475) rounded out the rotation.

Rotation Three
The Huskers moved to floor, where they scored a 48.975 as a team. Jencks led the way with a 9.850. Kraus and Homecillo followed with a pair of 9.825s. Allie Gard (9.750) and Reese Baechle (9.725) rounded out the lineup.

Rotation Four
NU concluded the contest on vault, posting a 48.725. Shaver (9.825) and Sikon (9.800) led the way, followed by Griffin (9.725) and Peterson (9.700). Peyton Pech (9.675) concluded the competition.

Up Next
NU will kick off the postseason by traveling to Champaign, Ill., to take part in the Big Ten Championships. The Huskers will compete in Session 1, which starts at 6 p.m. (CT) on Friday, March 20 at the State Farm Center. Nebraska will compete against Illinois, Rutgers and Washington. It will be streamed live on the Big Ten Network.
