Nebraska track and field senior Axelina Johansson was named the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year, the third such honor of her career.
Johansson was also named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year for the second time in her career one day earlier.
A native of Hok, Sweden, Johansson captured her third career NCAA shot put title at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a throw of 64-1 3/4 (19.55m).
Johansson also received Big Ten Field Athlete of the Championships accolades after winning the shot put at the Big Ten Indoor Championships with a mark of 63-10 1/2 (19.47m).
Johansson is a five-time Big Ten shot put champion and a three-time NCAA champion. She owns six NCAA medals and eight All-America honors.
Johansson claimed the bronze medal at the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships on March 20 with a new personal best and Swedish national record of 64-9 1/2 (19.75m). Her throw of 64-8 1/2 (19.72m) at the Husker Holiday Open in December 2025 is an NCAA indoor record.
