On the first day of the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland, Axelina Johansson used a lifetime best throw of 19.75m (64-9 ½) to claim Bronze in the women’s shot put.
Johansson entered the competition as the world No. 12 female shot putter, but used a strong second throw to position herself on the podium and improve on her Swedish National Record as well as her school record.
The senior from Hok, Sweden, claimed her third NCAA title just a week ago in Fayetteville, Ark., to cap off a dominant indoor collegiate season, with a mark of 19.55m (64-1 ¾).
Johansson is the current NCAA indoor record holder in the event after throwing 19.72m (64-8 ½) in December at the Husker Holiday Open.
The 2026 Big Ten Indoor Field Athlete of the Year will now look toward her final outdoor season, where she already holds the school record of 19.54m (64-1 ¼).
