Rakita Earns Big Ten Freshman of the Week Honors

Lincoln, Neb.- Freshman Sam Rakita has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week following a standout performance in Nebraska’s meet against Illinois.

Rakita placed second on still rings with a career-high score of 13.85, leading the Huskers to their win against Illinois and continuing his strong debut season. This was his fourth time competing on rings this season. He has also competed on floor, parallel bars and high bar in other meets this season. His career-high on floor is a 13.45, his parallel bar career-high is a 12.10 and his high bar career-high is a 12.70. He has been a key contributor for the Huskers this season. 

This is Rakita’s first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor of his career.
