Seniors Rienk Mast and Sam Hoiberg will join Coach Fred Hoiberg at Big Ten Men’s Basketball Media Day Thursday afternoon in Chicago. Coach Hoiberg and the Husker players will meet with local, regional and national media as well as the conference’s broadcast partners in preparation for the 2025-26 season.
The Big Ten Network will have five hours of coverage on Thursday, as B1G Live: Men's Basketball Media Day Special airs from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. (central). The Nebraska contingent will be on the broadcast at 2:45 p.m. (central).
Mast returns to action this season after missing all of last season following knee surgery. A third-team All-Big Ten performer in 2023-24, Mast averaged 12.3 points per game while pacing the Huskers in both rebounds (7.5 rpg) and assists (3.0 apg). The 6-foot-10 forward ranked in the top 15 in both assists and rebounds per game while his six double-doubles were the most by a Husker since 2007-08. Mast reached double figures 20 times and showed his ability to stretch a defense by hitting 34 percent from 3-point range. His campaign was highlighted by hitting six 3-pointers as part of a career-high 34-point effort in a win over Ohio State.
Hoiberg is one of the team’s leaders as the fifth-year senior has played in every game over the last two years. Last season, he started 15 of Nebraska’s final 16 games, averaging 3.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists and a team-high 1.4 steals per game, finishing 11th in the Big Ten in steals. Hoiberg posted a nearly 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio while also shooting 36 percent from the field. Hoiberg led NU in both assists (3.8 apg) and steals (2.0 spg) during the College Basketball Crown, including a career-high seven assists without a turnover in the title game vs. UCF.
The BTN broadcast will also be available on the Fox Sport app. Additional coverage will be on Nebraska men’s basketball social media channels (HuskerMBB on X and Instagram) and via the Big Ten Network’s X, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram platforms.
