LINCOLN - Gena Jorgenson and Abby Baxter, participants in the 2025 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, were recognized on Tuesday, Sept. 23 as Big Ten Swimmers and Divers to Watch for the 2025-26 season.
Hailing from Aberdeen, S.D., Jorgenson will enter her final season on the Nebraska women’s swimming and diving team. With three NCAA Championship appearances, Jorgenson will bring high value in the freestyle, IM and backstroke events for the Big Red.
The first two-time first-team All-American recipient for Nebraska since 2001, Jorgenson shattered her previous school record in the 1,650 free, notching a 15:49.99 at this past season’s championship meet. She also qualified for the 500 free and 400 IM at the NCAA Championships. She holds seven other school records between short-course and long-course events.
In her third year with the Big Red, Baxter, a diver from Coppell, Texas, made her NCAA Championship debut on the three-meter board. At the Hawkeye Invite in November, Baxter set a career best on the three-meter board with a 332.45 performance. Through her dominant performance at the Zone D Championships in Iowa City, Iowa, Baxter nabbed an NCAA bid on the three-meter board with a ninth-place, 324.70 finish.
She totaled 15 zone-qualifying performances throughout the season with 15 top-five finishes.
Jorgenson and Baxter will lead the Huskers into the annual Scarlet and Cream Intrasquad at the Devaney Natatorium on Friday, Sept. 26, at 4 p.m. CT. The Huskers will kick off the regular season in a dual against South Dakota State and Omaha on Friday, Oct.3, at 1 p.m. at the Devaney Center.
