Christopulos, Chronopoulos Advance to Event Finals at Pan-American Games

Panama City, Panama - Former Huskers Taylor Christopulos and Yanni Chronopoulos competed at the Pan-American Championships today in the team qualifying competition.  Christopulos secured fifth place in the all-around for Team USA, while Chronopoulos finished seventh representing Canada. Both gymnasts qualified for Saturday’s event finals on still rings, with Christopulos also earning a spot on floor.

Christopulos led Team USA on floor exercise with a strong 13.600 performance, highlighted by a stuck dismount, to finish third and secure a spot in the event finals. The Utah native scored 12.90 on pommel horse for sixth place but did not qualify for the event finals, as two higher-scoring Team USA athletes secured the available spots. Christopulos grabbed the second spot for Team USA on still rings with a 13.10 for sixth place. He also competed once on vault, earning a 13.800 to finish seventh, but did not qualify for the finals as he did not complete a second vault. He placed 17th (12.85) on parallel bars and 23rd on high bar (11.95). In the all-around, he put up a total score of 78.25 for the fifth-place spot. 

Chronopoulos posted a 12.55 on the floor, securing the 18th spot. He placed 12th on the pommel horse with a 12.200.  The Big Ten Still Rings Champion tied with Christopulos, scoring a 13.10 for seventh place behind his former teammate. The Canadian placed 31st on vault (12.85), 12th on parallel bars (13.15) and 10th on high bar (12.75). In his first international competition in 2025, he placed seventh in the all-around with a combined score of 76.600.

The United States is currently in first place with a team total of 241.950, and Canada is trailing in second with a 237.050. 

Next, both will return to competition for the team finals on Saturday, June 14, at 9:30 a.m. (CT) and for event Finals on Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m. (CT).
