Eugene, Ore. - Tyus Wilson and Kalynn Meyer claimed individual Big Ten titles and four Huskers finished in the top three of their events, as the Nebraska track and field team wrapped up day two of competition at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships with the men in second and the women in third.
Wilson cleared 2.21m (7-3) in the men’s high jump to earn his fourth Big Ten Championship. Desire Tonye-Nyemeck joined him in the top eight, clearing 2.06m (6-9), and Mason Kooi placed ninth (2.06m, 6-9).
Meyer claimed her first Big Ten title as she threw a personal-best and third-farthest discus throw in school history, 58.29m (191-3). Nebraska had two more throwers in the top eight as Kellyn Kortemeyer finished seventh (52.99m, 173-10 PR) and Amelia Flynt was eighth (52.45m, 172-1). Lauren St. Peters rounded out the group of Huskers in 20th (47.82m, 156-11).
Cade Moran threw the seventh-farthest shot put in school history, hitting a mark of 19.90m (65-3 ½) for the runner-up finish. Maxwell Otterdahl placed fourth with a season-best 19.18m (62-11 ¼), and Kael Miedema was 19th (17.05m, 55-11 ¼).
Two Huskers finished in the top four of the men’s long jump and secured team points for the Big Red, as Kavian Kerr earned bronze (7.59m, 24-11) and Till Steinforth finished fourth (7.58m, 24-10 ½).
In the decathlon, Brayden Bergkamp earned team points for the Huskers, finishing fifth (7,221 points) and placing third in the javelin event (54.41m, 178-6). Adria Navajon placed ninth (6,819 points) highlighted by a first-place finish in the long jump with a PR 7.37m (24-2 ¼).
Lishanna Ilves, Velecia Williams and Darby Thomas finished top eight in the women’s long jump as Ilves was fifth (6.14m, 20-1 ¾), Williams placed sixth (6.12m, 20-1) and Thomas (6.10m, 20-0 ¼) was seventh. Bariborve Deebom rounded out the long jump in 17th (5.69m, 18-8).
Kavian Kerr ran the eighth-fastest 100m time in school history (10.32) to finish eighth and qualify for tomorrow’s finals. Darby Thomas also placed eighth in the 100m, running 11.46, and will race tomorrow. In the men’s 110mH, Raiko Kahr placed 14th and ran a PR 14.30, while Johanna Ilves ran 13.84 in the 100mH for 14th.
Five Huskers competed in the men’s 800m: Gabe Nash (15th; 1:48.67 PR), Pradeep Senthilkumar (16th; 1:48.90), Niko Schultz (18th; 1:49.01), Hannes Fahl (26th; 1:50.19) and Kaleb Sharp (33rd; 1:51.11).
In the heptathlon, Favour Wanjoku finished 14th with 5,123 points, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the 200m (24.09 PR), and Grace Parsons was 18th (4,880 points), placing fourth in the shot put (13.33m, 43-8 ¾ PR).
Freshman Logan Lebo was the lone Husker competing in the men’s 400m, as he finished 27th and clocked a 48.65. On the women’s side, Kelsie Belquist placed 15th, running 54.18. In the 3000m steeplechase, Cami Merickel placed 13th (10:31.58) on the women’s side and Grant Wasserman was 20th (9:03.12) for the men.
