Des Moines, Iowa - The Nebraska track and field claimed 10 individual event titles at the Drake Relays as the Huskers ended competition on Saturday.
Freshman Jenessa Ruder won the women’s javelin championship, throwing 53.50m (175-6), and Hayden Gorovitz finished third on the men’s side, throwing 66.66m (218-8).
Seth Schnakenberg got his first event win of the season, throwing 62.75m (205-10) to earn the university division men’s hammer throw title. Brett Schwartz joined him in the top eight, going 58.88m (193-2).
Cammy Garabian added to the title count, winning the university division women’s hammer throw with a mark of 58.22m (191-0). Hillevi Carlsson finished seventh in the championship division, throwing 58.21m (190-11).
Jenna Rogers won the high jump title in the championship division, clearing 1.88m (6-2) and Karsyn Leeling added a third-place finish, jumping 1.85m (6-0 ¾). In the university division high jump, Brooklyn Miller placed second, clearing 1.75m (5-8 ¾).
Adria Navajon was the top finisher for the Huskers in the university men’s long jump, finishing seventh and jumping 7.01m (23-0). Luke Noland finished eighth (6.97m, 22-10 ½), and Balvin Israel placed 15th (6.76m, 22-2 ¼).
The Huskers competed in three university relays, earning three top-eight finishes. Seven Hicks, Arianna Walker, Johanna Ilves and Kelsie Belquist finished sixth in the women’s 4x100m, running 46.56. In the men’s 4x400m, Logan Lebo, William McDavid, Niko Schultz, and Pradeep Senthilkumar ran 3:13.30, finishing seventh. On the women’s side, Abrielle Artley, Kelsie Belquist, Alea Hardie, and Johanna Ilves finished eighth, running 3:43.82.
Nebraska also competed in three university medley relays, tallying three top-10 finishes. Seven Hicks, Arianna Walker, Meghan Walker and Johanna Ilves finished sixth in the women’s sprint medley relay (3:55.02), Hannes Fahl, William McDavid, Holden Ruse and Kaleb Sharp placed eighth in the men’s distance medley relay (9:51.95) and Logan Lebo, Holden Ruse, Pradeep Senthilkumar and Jack Gillogly finished ninth in the sprint medley relay (3:29.33).
Up next, the Huskers travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the Desert Heat Classic, May 2-3.
