Huskers Cold at Washington

Washington used a six-run first inning to even its softball series with Nebraska following a 10-2 five-inning win Saturday night in Seattle.

Washington had only three more hits than Nebraska, but half of the Huskies' eight hits went for extra bases, including a pair of home runs.

Hannah Camenzind homered for Nebraska (34-12, 13-5 Big Ten), while Ava Kuszak and Ava Bredwell each finished 2-for-3 with a double.

In the circle, Kylee Magee (6-4) fought her control early and took the loss. Magee allowed only two hits in 1.1 innings but walked five and hit a batter and was charged with five runs (four earned). After exiting the game in the first inning, Magee returned to toss a scoreless fourth inning. Emmerson Cope also saw action, allowing five runs (four earned) in 2.2 innings.

Morgan Reimer (14-6) earned the win in relief for Washington, which improved to 32-14 overall and 10-7 in conference play. Reimer allowed one run in 3.1 innings.

Washington got on the board first with a six-run first inning that consisted of four walks and two timely hits - an RBI single and a two-run double. 

With two outs in the top of the second, Bredwell singled to reach base and then stole second. Bella Bacon walked and Lauren Camenzind was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jordyn Bahl walked and Bredwell crossed the plate to put NU on the board. 

The Huskies extended the lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the second on a solo home run. UW scored three more runs in the third inning to make the score 10-1.

Hannah Camenzind knocked a solo home run to bring the score to 10-2 in the top of the fifth, but it wasn’t enough and Washington grabbed the 10-2 run-rule win.

NU will face the Huskies in the series finale tomorrow, April 27, starting at 3 p.m. (CT). The game will be streamed on B1G+ and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.
