Hamish Murray captured the first Big Ten Men's Golfer-of-the-Week award of his career when the conference announced its honors on Thursday, March 27.
The senior from Sydney, Australia fired a season-best 209 (-7) to tie for third individually while leading Nebraska to a third-place team finish with a season-best 849 (-15) at the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate in Litchfield Park, Ariz. (March 24-25).
Murray scorched the 7,021-yard, par-72 Gold Course at the Wigwam Resort for a 66 (-6) in Tuesday's final round to surge up the leader board into a career-best third-place finish. His final round included seven birdies, one bogey and 10 pars. He opened the tournament with rounds of 71 (-1) and even-par 72 on Monday.
His effort in Arizona marked Murray's first top-five finish as a Husker, but his third top-10 showing of the season. It was also his sixth top-25 finish of the year. He ranks second among the Huskers with a 71.78 stroke average over 23 rounds on the season.
Murray shared the Big Ten Men's Golfer-of-the-Week award with Purdue's Jenson Forrester, who tied for third individually with a 205 (-11) in helping the Boilermakers capture the team title at the Hootie Intercollegiate.
Murray and the Huskers will be back in action at the Tiger Intercollegiate in Columbia, Mo. (April 7-8).
