Inner Circle Career Combine Attended by 40 Huskers

On Monday, April 22nd, Inner Circle, the student-athlete leadership group focussed on professional development, closed out the year with the 3rd Annual Inner Circle Career Combine in the Osborne Era Club of Memorial Stadium. Inner Circle consisted of 55 student-athlete leaders from nearly all Husker teams for the 2023-2024 academic year who were dedicated to building their knowledge on professional development topics and enhancing their overall career marketability. Members attended monthly meetings centered around building leadership skills, serving the community, and improving their individual professional development.

Each meeting throughout the year featured a guest speaker and topics included:

• Speed Networking
• Essential Improv for Student Leaders
• Leadership and Mentorship 
• More Than an Athlete/Building Your Personal Brand
• Job Search/Resumes/Cover Letters
• Winning the Interview
• Link-N-Leaders (outreach event)

Monday's Inner Circle Career Combine was the eighth and final meeting of the year for the group and served as the culmination of topics covered in previous meetings. 40 members of Inner Circle who were able to attend had the opportunity to network with 25 area professionals while enjoying a catered meal to begin the evening. Following dinner, each student-athlete member was paired with a professional guest in a career field of interest and completed a mock interview that tested their knowledge of topics covered in the curriculum and allowed them a chance to practice answering some standard interview questions. The event also provided group members the opportunity to grow their professional network and market themselves for positions with potential employers in the future.

Members for Inner Circle are nominated for consideration by coaches, athletic department staff, and Inner Circle alumni. The application process occurs during the summer and members are notified of their acceptance prior to the beginning of the academic year.
