The No. 5 Nebraska men’s gymnastics team is headed west to UC-Berkeley where it will compete in a quad with No. 2 Stanford, No. 8 California, and No. 15 Air Force this Sunday, March 3. The meet will commence at 2 p.m. (CT) at the Haas Pavillion.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Red swept the tri-meet hosted at the Devaney Sports Center, besting the competition with a score of 412.900. The Huskers also made history, led by one of Nebraska’s captains, Zac Tiderman, and freshman, Chase Mondi. Tiderman broke the Husker school record on the high bar for the highest individual record on the event (14.65) and collected the title. The senior is ranked third in the country on the event. Mondi became the first Husker to complete a Kaz double-full on vault in school history and ranks eighth in the country.
Along with the impressive marks, NU claimed five titles at the tri-meet highlighted by a career-best from Taylor Christopulos on floor (14.75), a career-best from Cooper Giles on pommel horse (14.65), Chris Hiser on rings (13.85), Asher Cohen on parallel bars (14.10), and a career-best from Zac Tiderman on high bar (14.65).
Ahead of the meet, No. 5 NU highlights the rankings in first pla ce on vault (72.783), based on a three-score average. The Huskers also occupy fourth position on floor (68.90), fifth on pommel horse (66.90), sixth on parallel bars (66.667) and second place on high bar (68.90).
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
No. 2 Stanford sits at a record of 4-1 overall, recently coming off a win against GymACT team Bay Area Bandits (410.300-334.750) led by Taylor Burkhart with a career-best all-around performance (83.950).
No. 8 California competed virutally against William & Mary where the Bears won (393.150-376.900), landing at a record of 1-4 so far this season. They took five of six event titles, led by freshman Mitchell on rings with a stick and PR of 13.600, good for the event title.
No. 15 Air Force is 2-3 this season after taking first place at the All- Academy Championships with Army and Navy. They were led by led by pommel specialist Patrick Hoopes’ score of 15.20.
