Jessica Petrie helped Australia to three consecutive victories to close the FIBA U19 World Cup on a strong note in Madrid, Spain, June 23.
Petrie, a 6-2 incoming freshman to the Nebraska women's basketball program, competed in all seven games for the Australian U19 National Team at the tournament, averaging 6.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 14.5 minutes per game. The 18-year-old from Gold Coast, Australia hit 34 percent of her shots from the field, including 27 percent of her three-point attempts, while making all of her free throws during the week-long tournament. She helped Australia to a ninth-place finish with a 4-3 overall record.
In Australia's 91-60 victory over Brazil to start its three-game winning streak to end the tournament, Petrie put up 11 points while adding three rebounds, three assists and a steal in just 14 minutes of work. In the ensuing 70-45 win over Egypt, Petrie added seven points, three rebounds, an assist and a block in 19 minutes of play. She closed the tournament with two points and a rebound in an 81-73 victory over Germany on Sunday in Madrid.
Petrie will remain in Europe this week and join the Huskers as they arrive in Greece for their summer tour. Nebraska leaves for Greece on July 30 and will visit Athens, the Gulf of Corinth, Heraklion, Crete and the Athenian Riviera before returning to Lincoln on August 8.
