Kelli Ann Strand advanced to the match play round of 32 at the recent Women's Western Amateur Championship at White Eagle Golf Club in Naperville, Ill., July 18-22.
Strand, a sophomore-to-be on the Nebraska women's golf team, opened the tournament with one of the best rounds of the day on Tuesday, July 18, carding a 67 (-5) to sit in fourth place after the opening round. She added a 77 (+5) on Wednesday, July 19 to tie for 16th over 36 holes of stroke play to qualify for the match play portion of the event.
She opened match play against Savannah Barber, who escaped with a 1 up victory over Strand on Thursday, July 20.
Strand will join teammate Miu Takahashi in competing at the upcoming U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, Aug. 7-13.
