Hoiberg Named Big Ten Distinguished Scholar

Husker men's basketball player Sam Hoiberg was honored this week, as he earned the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award. The honor highlights student-athletes who recorded a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year.

Hoiberg, a sports media & communications major, was one of 10 men's basketball players honored by the Big Ten Conference in 2022-23. He was among the 108 Husker student-athletes honored this season. Hoiberg earned Academic All-Big Ten honors this past season and was named to the Tom Osborne Citizenship team for his work in the community.

Big Ten Faculty Representatives established the Distinguished Scholar Award in 2008 to supplement the Academic All-Big Ten program. Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full time at the institution for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year, excluding any summer grades.
