For the first time since 2013, a Nebraska women's tennis duo has been selected for the NCAA Tournament as Samantha Alicea and Raphaëlle Lacasse will compete next weekend at the 2023 NCAA Championships in Orlando, Fla., on the USTA National Campus.
Senior Alicea and junior Lacasse had a standout regular season tallying a 16-1 overall mark and a 10-match winning streak. Their lone loss came against Purdue's Tara Katarina Milic and Liz Norman, but in the rematch later in the season the Husker team prevailed. Most recently, the pair recorded a ranked win against Ohio State's No. 1 doubles team in the Big Ten tournament and finished the season with a 7-1 conference record.
In 2013, NCAA singles runner-up Mary Weatherholt and her partner Patricia Veresova finished their doubles career in the Elite Eight and earned the All-American status. Alicea and Lacasse look to become just the third All-American pairing in program history.
To open NCAA play, Alicea and Lacasse will face LSU's Kylie Collins and Anastasiya Komar in the Round of 32 on Tuesday, May 23 at 9 a.m. CT.
