Ossi Highlights Rifle Honors at Night at the Lied

Nebraska rifle captain Cecelia Ossi added the Huskers' "Best Female Athlete" award to her list of accolades at NU's Night at the Lied event on Sunday.

"We are incredibly proud of Cecelia's accomplishments and appreciate the recognition from the athletic department," Head Coach Mindy Miles said. "Cecelia has done an amazing job to represent Nebraska and herself nationally and internationally."

The Tom Osborne Citizenship Team featured all eight members of the rifle team, as Ossi, Elena Flake, Madelynn Erickson, Payton Fry, Mackenzie Strauch, Camilla Johannessen, Emma Rhode and Vittoria Watts were commended for their work in the community.

Rifle was one of 12 sports to earn special recognition, as every athlete on the roster was honored at the Night at the Lied.

"Each of our team members do a lot outside of athletics to be recognized in this way," Miles said. "JT (Schnering) and I are very proud to have the amazing athletes on our team and representing Nebraska. The skills they develop here will not only carry them through their time at Nebraska, but they will be able to take them into their careers and lives beyond athletics. We really push and encourage the team to engage in volunteer opportunities and excel in the classroom, and these recognitions prove their hard work."

Erickson was the team's Sam Foltz 27 Hero Leadership award recipient. This award, named in honor of the late Husker punter Sam Foltz, is presented to 27 student-athletes across all sports who exhibit strong leadership qualities, commitment to service and ability to encourage/empower peers.

Additionally, five members of the team earned academic medallions for their work in the classroom. Fry and Strauch garnered gold medallions, posting GPAs of 3.75 or higher. Ossi and Flake received silver medallions for GPAs between 3.5 and 3.749 and Erickson got a bronze medallion for a GPA between 3.0 and 3.499.
