Huskers Avenge Loss Against No. 11 Ohio State

The No. 6 Nebraska Rifle team took down No. 11 Ohio State by a score of 4,715-4,651 on Saturday at the Nebraska Rifle Range. The Huskers moved to 7-5 on the season.

Four Huskers placed in the top-five overall. Freshman Emma Rhode placed first with a score of 1,181. She was followed by junior All-American Cecelia Ossi (second, 1,179), sophomore Mackenzie Strauch (third, 1,179) and freshman Vittoria Watts (fifth, 1,177).

"Today was below our average," said Head Coach Mindy Miles. "On a good note, Kenzie posted a personal best in smallbore and tied her aggregate. Overall, we are looking at picking a few points per position to reach the scores the team knows they can reach. We're looking forward to competing at conference championships in Alaska next weekend."

In the air rifle, Nebraska took four of the top five spots. Rhode led them with a first-place finish and a score of 595. Ossi was second with a score of 595, Watts was fourth with a score of 593 and Strauch was fifth with a 592. Strauch's score ties her personal best that she has shot four times this season.

NU also claimed four of the top five spots in the smallbore. Strauch took first with a 587, Rhode placed second with a 586, Ossi placed third with a 584, and Watts rounded them out in fifth with a 584. Strauch's score of 587 is her career best score.

Up next, the Huskers will travel to Fairbanks, Alaska, for the Patriot Rifle Conference (PRC) Championships on Feb. 4-5. They are set to start at 10 a.m. (central) on Saturday, Feb. 4.
