To commemorate 50 years of Title IX, Nebraska will celebrate a trailblazer in women's athletics at every home football game. Pat Logsdon will be recognized and honored during the Illinois game this Saturday.
Pat Logsdon spent more than four decades working for Nebraska Athletics. She most recently served as the Senior Woman Administrator from 2008 until retiring in 2021. Logsdon was a strong advocate and leader for multiple Husker sports throughout her career with the University.
Logsdon began her career with Nebraska Athletics in 1979. She worked directly with the Nebraska Football program for 23 seasons. In 1997, Hall of Fame Coach Tom Osborne chose her as Nebraska's Director of Football Operations, making Logsdon the first female in Division I to serve in that capacity.
As the Director of Football Operations, Logsdon handled organization of all recruiting functions, supervised compliance activities and coordinated all football administrative operations, including travel and practice operations.
"I am fortunate and grateful that Coach Osborne gave me the opportunity to serve in that role where I worked with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds, had direct experience with recruiting, game day operations, team travel, budgeting, compliance, scheduling, and overseeing the general operational functions for the football program," Logsdon said.
"That experience enabled me to have a great understanding of how our sports operate as well as how they interact with all of the support areas within the athletic department. I believe my organizational, communication and people skills improved as a result, and that, in turn, helped me become a better leader in our department."
Logsdon transitioned into an expanded role across Nebraska Athletics, serving as Associate Athletic Director for Administration. She maintained that role until 2003.
Logsdon served as the sport administrator for numerous teams during her time as an athletic administrator, including women's basketball, men's and women's gymnastics, softball and Nebraska's perennial national championship-contending volleyball program among others.
She was also the senior administrator who oversaw Nebraska's Life Skills department and the Gender Equity and Diversity and Inclusion plans. This included coordinating student-athlete surveys and exit interviews.
Logsdon played a critical role in the transition to the Big Ten Conference, serving as the liason between Nebraska Athletics, the NCAA and the Big Ten Conference. She also represented the Huskers on the Big Ten Sports Management Committee.
In November of 2021, Logsdon was named the recipient of the 2021-22 Dr. Barbara Hibner Trailblazer Award. The Trailblazer Award is given to honor outstanding support and generous contributions to women's athletics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
