Postgame Quotes vs. North Dakota (Sept. 3, 2022)
Nebraska 38, North Dakota 17
On how he feels after the game, physically
“I feel good physically, just sore. I was struggling actually a little bit this week with a cold or some type of sickness. I woke up on game day and it kind of all went away. You know, when the game starts you feel fine, so I felt good during the game, but like I said I’m definitely sore right after.”
On working on option plays
“I mean Coach Frost, he’s big on running the zone read option. So sometimes we call it, and the defensive end goes up field so they give us a give look. Sometimes I hand it off and then as you guys have seen, sometimes I pull it. Sometimes we call it and it’s meant to look like it’s a straight handoff. We work on it every day and that’s something we take pride in our offense in the game.”
On his pass to wide receiver Trey Palmer in fourth quarter
“I was very happy that Trey [Palmer] went up and got that ball. We both say that we owe each other from that last game because he had a couple drops and I missed him a couple times. He really went up in the air and attacked the ball at its highest point. It was a really good play and that ended up extending our drive. I mean that was coming off of first and second down where I took a couple hits. Like I said, the targeting call they reviewed it, but it was good to see Trey go up and get that ball. He’s been working hard at practice getting some extra catches on the jug machine. That was a big play for us, and we ended up going down and scoring to put the game away so it was a big play.”
On the first half
“I was going to say we only had 23 plays in the first half. Two of the four possessions we should have scored, and we had one touchdown and one missed field goal. I mean 23 plays is like a quarter and that was a half for us. I think our time of possession was also nine minutes or something for us. North Dakota had the ball for 20 plus minutes, so they literally doubled our possession time almost the whole game and ran more plays than us. So honestly for us to even be in the game and ahead we were just trying to stay positive at halftime. A better opponent, if they have the ball more, they probably would’ve been up on us. We just tried to stay positive at halftime and then we knew we were getting the ball to start the second half and we marched right down the field.”
On running game
“If we can run the ball like that all season, any of our running backs, we can stay ahead of the chains and get a run game going. We rushed for over 200 yards today which is really good and threw for 193 yards, so we tried to stay balanced. That’s the best way to play because you get clock management and also get a lot of first downs and get the defense tired to help out our defense as well. I thought we ran the ball really well today and made some big-time cuts. My favorite play was when Anthony Grant had that long touchdown. He started off inside and turned on the jets a little bit, so it was really good to see that.”
