Lincoln – A trio of Nebraska bowlers were recognized for their performance in the classroom this week as the Big Ten Conference announced its Distinguished Scholars for the 2021-2022 academic year.
The three bowlers honored include Michelle Guarro (Guadalajara, Mexico), Amara Smith Speights (Woodbridge, VA.) and Cassidy Ray (Herrin, III.). They are among over 100 Husker student-athletes recognized by the Big Ten.
Ray is being honored for the fourth straight year in a row, while both Guarro and Smith Speights are being recognized for the first time in their academic careers.
To be eligible for selection, students must be a recipient of Academic All-Big Ten Recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full-time at the institution for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year (excluding any summer grades).
