Talley Finishes Sixth in NCAA Hammer Throw With School Record

EUGENE, Ore. - Four Nebraska track and field athletes began competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field on Wednesday.

Alex Talley led the Huskers on day one of the meet by finishing sixth place in the hammer throw to finish the season as a first-team All-American. Talley broke his own hammer throw school record with a mark of 234-8 (71.52m) on his third attempt. He was in fourth place entering the final three throws and ended in sixth, the same finish he had last year while at North Dakota State. 

Burger Lambrechts Jr. earned his fifth career All-America honor, claiming second-team honors with a 15th-place finish in the shot put. Lambrechts Jr.'s top throw on the night was 62-8 (19.10m). Maxwell Otterdahl, who was the Big Ten outdoor champion in the shot put, finished in 18th place to receive USTFCCCA honorable mention. Otterdahl's best throw was 61-8 1/2 (18.81m). 

On the track, Darius Luff finished 17th in the 110-meter hurdles to receive honorable mention. Luff's time was 13.74. 

On Thursday, Maddie Harris and Mirta Kulisic compete in the women's javelin at 8:45 p.m. (CT), while LaQwasia Stepney begins the long jump at 9 p.m. and Axelina Johansson represents NU in the shot put at 9:40 p.m.
