The Husker Post Eligibility Opportunity (PEO) scholarship continued to assist Husker student-athlete alumni during the Spring 2022 semester. Since 2015, the PEO program has assisted 318 Husker alumni to increase their career marketability, personal development and intellectual growth through internships, graduate school, and study abroad experiences. During the Spring 2022 semester, 13 Husker alumni (nine internships, four graduate school) from nine different Husker teams utilized the $7,500 PEO scholarship which is guaranteed to all Husker letterwinners who graduate and exhaust their athletic eligibility at Nebraska. The PEO program has now awarded over $2.2 million of scholarship funding in it's seven year history following the $97,500 awarded during the Spring 2022 semester.
Spring 2022 Participant Testimonials
Michael Decker, Football, Internship at the US House of Representatives
"I gained the confidence to pitch my ideas to senior members of the team, referencing the skills I compiled by churning out written materials and researching current events. Additionally, I gained significant awareness of the legislative process and how Hill staffers come to love that work. I believe the financial support of PEO helps knock down barriers to entry for certain industries. I also think the PEO's curriculum guides professional behavior, since the job itself can range greatly. Few places offer the level of career development that Nebraska continues to provide."
Taylor Johnson, Track & Field, Internship at Eastside Golf
"I would encourage younger students to use PEO when they are eligible because it helps prepare you for future job opportunities. I also think it is a great reflection tool to use when deciding one's next career move. I think this program is necessary, especially for those of us who weren't able to acquire work experience during our time as student-athletes."
Leah Meyer, Track & Field, Physical Therapy School at UNMC
"This is a great program that allows you to further your education and pursue your passions. Finances can be a major component when deciding what to do with your future, this scholarship helps ease some of the stress that comes with it. After this first year of graduate school, I feel more confident in my knowledge and abilities as a student physical therapist. This semester has helped me think more divergently and opened my eyes to greater opportunities I can pursue in the future."
Izzie Murray, Swimming & Diving, Internship at Cincinnati Zoo
"Getting my foot in the door in my field and at the Cincinnati Zoo has been amazing. I am really grateful to have gotten this experience and my career path has completely changed because of this experience. I am a lot closer to my dream job than I ever thought I could be."
