Nebraska track and field's Maxwell Otterdahl was named the Big Ten Men's Field Athlete of the Championships on Wednesday after a vote by the league's head coaches.
Otterdahl completed an impressive double over the weekend at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in Minneapolis. He won the shot put on Saturday with a throw of 64-8 (19.71m) and followed up with the discus gold medal after a personal best of 190-11 (58.19m) on Sunday. Otterdahl became the first Husker male to win both the shot put and discus titles at the same conference meet since Carl Myerscough at the 2004 Big 12 Championships.
The Husker men have won three Big Ten Field Athlete of the Championships awards over the last two seasons, all three by a different Husker thrower. Burger Lambrechts Jr. became Nebraska's first-ever winner in the 2021 indoor season after winning the shot put title. Alex Talley followed up by earning the award this indoor season after winning the weight throw and finishing second in the shot put. And Otterdahl became the third Husker in the last two years with his stellar performance over the weekend.
Nebraska's Maddie Harris and Alex Talley received Big Ten Sportsmanship Awards.
