Five Husker Basketball Players to Receive Degrees This Weekend

Lincoln -- Nebraska men's basketball will have a strong presence at graduation as four members of the 2021-22 team will receive their diplomas during commencement ceremonies this weekend.

Kobe Webster (Indianapolis, Ind.) earned his master's degree during graduate ceremonies earlier Friday at Pinnacle Bank Arena, while Trevor Lakes (Lebanon, Ind.), Lat Mayen (Adelaide, Australia) and Chris McGraw (Columbus, Ohio) will receive their degrees during undergraduate ceremonies at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
Webster finished up his master's degree in educational administration after receiving his undergraduate degree from Western Illinois in 2020. A three-time CoSIDA academic all-district nominee, Webster was a third-team Academic All-American in 2021, the first Husker since 2016 to receive the honor. Webster, who totaled over 1,800 career points in his college career, was also an Academic All-Big Ten honoree this past season.

Lakes will graduate with a degree in child, youth & family studies. The Lebanon, Ind., native spent the last two seasons at Nebraska after beginning his career at the University of Indianapolis. Lakes was a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship team in 2021 and has totaled over 1,000 points and 400 rebounds at the college level.

Mayen will receive his degree in child, youth & family studies after playing at both TCU and Chipola College. The 6-foot-9 forward was named to the NU Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2020, and he started all 57 games he appeared in over the last two seasons. Mayen averaged 7.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game since transferring to Nebraska. McGraw walked on to the Husker program in 2020 and spent the last two seasons in the Husker program. He will graduate with a degree in child, youth & family studies on Saturday. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, he was a three-time member of the NU Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. He also received a Silver Academic Medallion for posting a GPA of 3.50 or higher over the previous two semesters. He played in six games this past season after sitting out the 2020-21 season.

In addition to the four current Huskers, former Husker Shamiel Stevenson (Toronto, Ontario) will receive a degree in criminology & criminal justice. Stevenson, who began his career at Pittsburgh, spent two seasons with the Huskers (2019-21) and is completing his first professional season overseas. As a Husker, he played in 26 games averaging 5.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.
