All seven members of the Nebraska rifle program were honored during the annual Night at the Lied event on Sunday. The event honored the achievements of Husker student-athletes in the areas of academics, athletics, community service and leadership.
The Tom Osborne Citizenship team featured all seven members of the rifle program, as Kinga Aletto, Emily Cheramie, Madelynn Erickson, Elena Flake, Payton Fry, Cecelia Ossi and Mackenzie Strauch were lauded for their work in the community.
"Being a student-athlete is much more than showing up for class and competing in a sport," Head Coach Mindy Miles said. "The student-athletes on this team proudly serve their community as Huskers. This honor is well-deserved for all members of this team."
Ossi also earned the Sam Foltz 27 Hero Leadership Award for her outreach and leadership over the past year. This award, named in honor of the late Husker punter Sam Foltz, is presented to 27 student-athletes across all sports who exhibit strong leadership qualities, commitment to service and ability to encourage/empower peers.
In addition, five Husker shooters received medallions for their work in the classroom over the last year, posting GPAs over 3.0. Flake and Ossi received gold medallions with GPAs over 3.75. Cheramie received a silver medallion for carrying over a 3.50 GPA, while Aletto and Erickson both earned bronze medallions.
