Inner Circle Closes Year With Career Combine

On Monday, April 25th, the student-athlete leadership group, Inner Circle, closed out their year of scheduled meetings with the Inner Circle Career Combine in the Osborne Era Club of Memorial Stadium. Inner Circle is one of the three student-athlete leadership groups housed in the athletic department and consists of 38 student-athlete leaders who are committed to building meaningful connections with peers, letterwinner alumni, and community leaders.  Members attended monthly meetings centered around building leadership skills, serving the community, and improving their individual professional development.

Each meeting throughout the year feautred a student-athlete alumni speaker and topics included:

  • Goal Setting & Core Values
  • Building Your Brand & Being More Than an Athlete
  • Managing Personal Finances
  • Group Outreach Event to Legacy Retirement Home
  • Communicating Like a Pro
  • Building Your Professional Network
  • Preparing for an Interview

Monday's Inner Circle Career Combine was the eighth and final meeting of the year for the group and served as the culmination of topics covered in previous meetings. Members of Inner Circle had the opportunity to network with area professionals while enjoying a catered meal. Following dinner, each student-athlete member was paired with a professional guest in a career field of interest and completed a mock interview that tested their knowledge of topics covered in the curriculum.

Crystal Elliott, Husker Bowler and Inner Circle member refelcted on her experience in the group. "Being paired with a professional in a career field I am interested in was inspiring and a connection that may open doors for new opportunities in the future once I am done competing. Each meeting taught us something different that we could use in these mock interviews and the connections with the Husker alumni guest speakers were great for building our professional network."

"The Career Combine was a very valuable opportunity to utilize the skills we learned throughout the year and gave us all great practice for real life experiences that each of us will go through at some point in our lives." shared Inner Circle member and Track & Field student-athlete, Micaylon Moore
