Ann Arbor, Mich. - The No. 74 Nebraska men's tennis team (4-12, 0-1 Big Ten) fell to the No. 5 Michigan Wolverines (11-2, 1-0 Big Ten), 4-0 at the Varsity Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
Action started with doubles play as the No. 1 team of Victor Moreno Lozano and Nic Wiedenhorn fell to Michigan's No. 6 ranked team of Nino Ehrenschneider and Andrew Fenty, 6-2. In the No. 2 spot, Dario Huber and Shunya Maruyama knocked off the Wolverine's No. 21 team of Ondrej Styler and Gavin Young, 6-3. With the doubles score tied at one match a piece, the No. 3 team of Calvin Mueller and Patrick Cacciatore battled Michigan's Nick Beaty and Patrick Maloney. The Wolverines won the final doubles match and led 1-0 to start singles play.
In singles play, Michigan's No. 27 Styler bested Huber in consecutive sets, 6-3, 6-3. Young then proceeded to defeat Roni Hietaranta, who leads the Huskers in wins, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Beaty clinched the match for the Wolverines as he was victorious over Wiedenhorn, 6-3, 6-4, to give Nebraska its first conference loss of the season. Maruyama and Lozano were the only Huskers to take sets from the Wolverines, doing so in the No. 3 and No. 6 spots.
Up next, the Huskers stay in the Great Lakes State as they battle Michigan State on Sunday at Noon in East Lansing, Michigan.
