Huskers Fall to Tigers In Opening Round of Blue-Gray Classic

Montgomery, Ala. - The Nebraska men's tennis team (3-6, 0-0 Big Ten) fell short in the opening round of the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic to the Princeton Tigers (7-4, 0-0 Ivy League), 4-1 at the Yarbrough Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

Doubles action kicked things off as Dario Huber and Shunya Maruyama were victorious over Karl Poling and Damian Rodriguez, 6-2. Princeton answered with a win in the No. 3 spot and eventually clinched the doubles point as Justin Barki and Ryan Seggerman knocked off Victor Moreno Lozano and Nic Wiedenhorn in the No. 1 spot, 7-5.

In singles action, Roni Hietaranta got back on track with a win in the No. 6 spot over the Tiger's Filippos Astreinidis, 6-1, 6-2, to even the match at one.

After that, it was all Princeton as they secured the next three singles matches to win the contest 4-1 and advance to the winner's bracket. Maruyama and Huber battled for the Huskers, but both fell short in three-set affairs in the No. 1 and No. 4 spot respectively. Thomas Bosancic clinched the victory for the Tigers with a win over Maruyama, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Calvin Mueller and Lozano both had matches left unfinished in the third set after the match was called.

Up next, the Huskers will take on either Auburn or VCU in doubles Friday night, with the singles portion of the match being finished Saturday morning in Montgomery, Alabama.
