NU Set To Host Big Red Invite

Lincoln - The Nebraska bowling team will host their home tournament of the 2021-22 season this weekend. The event takes place from Friday, Feb. 25 to Sunday, Feb. 27 at Hollywood Bowl.

The tournament will host six of the top 25 teams ranked by the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA). The total eight teams competing include No. 1 McKendree, No. 3 Nebraska, No. 7 Arkansas St., No. 9 Youngstown St., No. 22 Wisconsin Whitewater, No. 25 Central Missouri, Quincy, and Valparaiso.

This year will mark the Nebraska bowling team's debut on Big Ten Network (BTN). The broadcast will be live on Sunday, Feb. 27th at 11:00 a.m. CT.

"Every year the Big Red Invitational is an important and fun week for our team and the fans alike," said Head Coach Klempa. "But this year with the added element of live television it is sure to be even more exciting. We always have good crowds of people in attendance to support the team and this year that is likely to be even more the case. I expect great crowds all three days including for the Big Ten Network's live broadcast of our final match on Sunday. The team enjoys performing in front of the crowd and their energy fuels us throughout the weekend. This is our lone home event of the season and we enjoy having the fan support that comes with playing in Lincoln."

The Huskers begin Baker-style play on Friday at 9 a.m. They will start the day with a a match against Quincy, followed by taking on top-ranked McKendree. After that, NU will face off against No. 7 Arkansas St and then No. 22 Wisconsin Whitewater. Nebraska will end the day with a final match against No. 25 University of Central Missouri.

The event resumes Saturday morning at 9:10 a.m. with Traditional-style matches. Following a position round, the Huskers will face No. 9 Youngstown St., Valparaiso, and No. 25 University of Central Missouri. NU will finish the day facing No. 22 Wisconsin Whitewater.

Sunday's schedule will be based on the combined results of Friday and Saturday. The teams will compete Baker-style best-of-seven games and the tournament title will go to the team with the highest per-game average.

"The team is coming off an extremely dominant performance in Arkansas last weekend and we look to continue that dominance at home this weekend. If we can, it will be a fun show for the fans to witness," said Klempa.
