Ossi Qualifies for NCAAs in the Smallbore

Nebraskasophomore captain Cecelia Ossi qualified for the smallbore event in the NCAA Rifle Championships, as the 2022 NCAA field was announced Tuesday. 

Ossi averageda score of 586.17 in the smallbore in 12 matches this season. Her season-high score in the smallbore is a 589, which she achieved three times throughout the season. 

"Although I am sad the rest of my team will not be with me, I am extremely excited to represent the University of Nebraska at the 2022 championships," Ossi said. "It has been a tough season full of challenges and I would not have made it without the encouragement and support of my coaches, teammates anad family, both at UNL and home. I am extremely thankful for all the blessings God has given me and can take no credit for this amazing opportunity."

Ossi hasplaced first overall in three matches this season. She has posted four first-place smallbore finishes and three first-place air rifle finishes. In the three events, she has earned 29 total top-five finishes. She has never finished outside of the top ten this season, including at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships, where there were six teams competing. 

"It'sgreat news that Cecelia made the NCAA Championships as an individual," Head Coach Mindy Miles said. "We are very proud of her qualification score and are excited for her to represent Nebraska at the Championships. Cecelia has worked very hard all seasons and deserves to show her strength at the match."

The Nebraska rifle team was not one of the eight teams selected for the NCAA Championships announced Tuesday.
