Huskers Sweep the Bluejays

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska men's tennis team (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten) began the season with a win over Creighton (0-1, 0-0 Big East), as they swept the Bluejays 7-0.

The Huskers faced the Bluejays in three doubles matches and six singles matches. In doubles, Rudra Dixit and Calvin Mueller got their first win of the season in No. 2 spot, defeating Creighton's Stratton Brown and Zack Maline, 6-3. Also notching their first doubles win was Roni Hietaranta and Nic Wiedenhorn in the No. 3 spot, as they took down Jose Oscar Diaz and Shin Inoue, finishing the match 7-5.

Nebraska carried its hot start into singles action, as all six competitors won their match. In the No. 5 spot, Victor Moreno Lozano gathered his first win of the spring, knocking off Diaz, 6-2, 6-0. Patrick Cacciatore also won his first match of the spring campaign after defeating Creighton's Ethan Neil, 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 6 spot. Dario Huber sealed the win for the Huskers in the top spot as he bested the Bluejay's Casey Ross, 6-1, 6-2. Nic Wiedenhorn and Roni Hietaranta gathered wins in the No. 2 and No. 4 slot respectively to start their seasons off with a victory. Finishing the sweep was Calvin Mueller who topped Creighton's Matthew Lanahan, 7-6 (4), 6-4.

Up next, the Huskers will stay home and take on the No. 2 Baylor Bears this Thursday, Jan. 20 at 5 p.m at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
