Las Vegas, Nev- Eight Husker bowlers competed for a spot on Team USA in the 2022 Olympics. They bowled for five days.
Former Husker Shannon Pluhowsky placed first overall and former Husker and current assistant coach Julia Bond finished second overall in the women's competition. Pluhowsky bowled a 6,573 and Bond bowled a 6,393. They will automatically qualify for a spot on the national team, along with the other two top-four finishers.
Six current Husker athletes also bowled in the national competition. Junior Crystal Elliott placed 25th, freshman Anna Callan placed 27th, redshirt sophomore Kayla Verstraete placed 51st, redshirt senior Cassidy Ray placed 71st, redshirt freshman Alexis Buchert placed 89th and redshirt freshman Alexia Cassman placed 114th.
The team is currently competing at the Stormin' Blue and White Vegas Classic in Las Vegas. They will follow that competition with the Prairie View A&M Invite in Arlington, Tex. on Jan. 28-30.
