Ben Stille Quotes - 11-22-21

Ben Stille
Defensive Lineman

On preparation for rivalry game
“Obviously there is a little more that goes into the game. The preparation is similar as far as you prepare like any opponent but then obviously on game day there is a little extra juice that goes into it for sure you can just feel it. You are lying if you do not feel it.”

On why Ben Stille feels the “juice” during rivalry game
“There is a little more hatred that goes towards each other on both sides of the ball, so there is just a little extra that goes into the game for sure.”

On playing his last game
“Last season was probably the longest season I can remember just feelings-wise obviously. This year just seemed like it flew by so it came quick. When I made this decision to come back last year it always seems like a year’s time at the end of the season, then it seems like that is a long time out and it seems like that when you are a second year guy when you are a first year guy and you think you have five years left in my case six years left, and it seems like a long time and you have a ton of time until you get there and then it always flies by, so it is kind of just something I try to pass on to the younger guys, too.”

On Nash Hutmacher
“Nash’s jump, it was evident in all of the D-linemen guys they make that jump there. They are not very good at one point and then all of a sudden there is a practice where it clicks. For him it was the spring game two years ago. That was kind of his little coming out party and then he never looked back, so it happens for the guys that have the God-given abilities and to go with it they have the dedication and the cerebral side of it and the want to for those guys. You know it is going to click, it is just a matter of when. He has obviously been progressing ever since that spring game two years ago.”

On defensive foundation Stille is leaving
“I think they will have a good core of guys back. Obviously these first three years with Coach Chinander, the foundation has been laid as far as improving year by year. I think they will be in a good place for next year and have a good core of guys, too. I am proud of that aspect of it.”

On the decision players have to come back and play
“Obviously it is something you have to really want to do. If it is something you are dragging your feet on, you are doing it for a lot of other reasons other than you really wanting to, it is going to be a miserable year for yourself. There is a lot of work that goes into it and those guys know what it takes. So all those guys weigh in those decisions. I think they know what goes into it and they know what to expect for another year if they sign up for it so you just really need to have the want for it though.”

On the senior class
“Those of us that are still here, resiliency is for sure a word that comes to mind. We have been through a lot. Those dudes that were here from day one however many of us there are and that are still here those are some of the most resilient people I know. It is going to serve them well later in life. JoJo (Domann) and I have talked about this, but there are not a lot of things later in life that are going to be harder than what we have gone through here and our time and just how much this has prepared us for the rest of our lives.”
