Casey Rogers
Defensive Line

On coaching changes
“Of course it is going to be a bummer for the team. Those guys have been here since day one since Coach Frost got here. At first it was hard. Those guys see those coaches every day. We do too, but your position coach you become very tight with them. When someone leaves the family it is always tough. That week was pretty tough. I know for the offensive line those guys were pretty upset. It is just a business unfortunately. It just comes with that job. I wish those coaches the best. I know my family just went through it. It is a stresser. It is a big stress on those guys. I think this week we did a really good job at putting that behind us and focusing on what the task at hand is. I am pretty excited about how the guys came out today to practice. The offensive line was firing off the ball. Nothing bad has come out of it really other than losing a part of the family.”

On Coach Frost coming back for the 2022 season
“It was a big sigh of relief for me personally. I know a lot of guys probably felt the same way. It is hard because you try not to pay attention to a lot of that while you are in season. You try and focus on what is on hand with the games we are playing. As the season went on and more talk was coming about it it was a big relief to know what was going on and what is going to happen. I am so excited he is coming back. I think Coach Frost is building something really special here. The culture is where we need it to be. We just need those one score games. They are killing us. I think we are getting really close to figuring out how to do it.”

On the next two games
“They are huge. I think these next two games are culture games. The games are for trophies and I think our guys know that. It is another opportunity to go out there and show what we've got. You cannot take any game for granted, even if you do not make it to a bowl game. You cannot even focus on that. It is one game at a time. Wisconsin is a good team defensively. They are always tough up front. Physical. But that is what we like. It is another good challenge for the defensive line. We are excited for these next two games. They are big games. This could change a lot.”

On the defense’s excitement for last two games
“We like to do that every game. Any time we line up against a team like Iowa or Wisconsin, I know offensively they have big guys. Both teams do and they are a very good defenses, too. But anytime we get trophy games these are big games for us. These are two rivalry games. I think both offense and defense are really excited for the opportunity.

On motivation to hand teams losses
“Absolutely. The Ohio State game could have changed the whole College Football Playoff lineup. Unfortunately it did not come out the way we wanted it to. We have another opportunity here with Wisconsin. They started the year out kind of shaky but now they are doing pretty well and they are ranked, too. Same with Iowa. These guys are good teams. It is always a battle between these two teams with Nebraska and Iowa and Wisconsin. You can definitely be motivated to go out there and know that you have an opportunity to put them one more game behind. Change up the rankings a little bit.”

On linebacker JoJo Domann
“Losing JoJo is huge. I think we have trust in the guys that are behind him. JoJo is one of those type of guys who comes to work every day. Brings guys along with him. His attitude about life is always positive. He is a hard guy to replace on and off the field so when he is gone he is going to be a presence that is not here anymore. He had to make that decision and we are behind him with that decision to get his hand fixed. I am proud to have shared the field with him. It is tough, but the guys that are behind him are ready. It is there time now.”

On the younger players on defense
“Personally I think the young guys are about ready. I think the huge thing about them is similar to the situation I was in two years ago with Carlos and Khalil (Davis) and being able to learn from them. These guys have a lot of really good football players to watch and learn from. I think that is going to be huge in their development. They have been sponges all year. They just have to know when it is their opportunity they have to perform and produce which I am 100 percent sure they will. I am very positive about the next group of young core guys that are coming up and who will be gamers next year.”
