Cam Taylor-Britt Quotes - 11-1-21

Cam Taylor-Britt
Defensive Back
On the message to the team about defense

“Just to keep playing. Keep putting your best foot forward. I always say leave everything on the field. We have been playing together a long time. We know the ins and outs of each other. We will just keep going out there.”

On matching up against David Bell
“I was looking forward to it, but when I saw the game, I already knew what the matchup was. I know, some of the things that he does well and some that he doesn't, so I was just trying to get under his skin, just try to put hands on, like I said in an interview it was a good match. I'm glad that I had it. I was ready for it.”

On the defense maximizing its potential
“Very close, very close. I don't think I can spread my fingers that far apart from how close it is. Just a little hump.. And we are right over the hump of being on the best defense, back in the day, everybody flying around making plays. You got corners making seven, eight, nine, 10 tackles. So, you got guys flying around just trying to make a play, but also doing their job.”

On moving past the Purdue game
“I always say once the game is over, we are onto the next game. It is over with.”

On personal expectations for the Ohio State game
“To do our job to the best of our ability. It doesn't change, everybody does what they're supposed to do, and we just know we are supposed to run our defense. But one thing you can say about Ohio State, they're fast and make plays. They are very mature at the receiver spot, and they know how to get open. Good hands. So, we've got to play our ball. We have to play lockdown defense, especially on the back end. And we have to tackle great. They've got some good running backs over there. They're young too.”

On comparing teams
“You can say that. They're the best in the Big Ten, so yeah, you can say that most definitely . Their offense is great. And I feel like we've got one of the best defenses in the Big Ten, so that 49 points putting up on different teams shouldn't happen.”

On the talent perspective
“We have the same players, like Samori, Chris, Omar Manning, Garrett Nelson. It is hand in hand. We just have to get the ball into playmakers' hands and let them work. Defense-wise, I don't know any defensive guys over there. I know a couple, but I just feel like we've got upside on the defense. Defense, we have to get back to the quarterback. He is young. A lot of people haven't been able to get to him, so we must make them make some bad decisions. Like I said, he's a young guy. He's mature. We are going try to get them early and get some picks on the backend decision.”

On Saturday's post-game speech
“Everybody is tired of hearing his same speech man, we go back and forth, about the same things, day in and day out. And then we get to the weekend, and we have the same result. It is the same speech, so we would rather hear from the players because it's really a heart-to-heart thing, and we are on the field together. He's not on the field. He is our head coach, and we feel for him, but like us, I feel like they need to feel that from us. I came in today and you can see a change in practice. Just go out there and put everything on the field. We have a couple games left. Don't give up now. I'm a senior and I'm not giving up on anything. You will see me play 110 percent all of the time on the field. Laying it out on the grass is what you are going to see from me. I was just telling other guys, like it's not over. I understand we might have some losses under our belt. Not the wins that we want, but it's still football. You came here to play football. You have been playing football your whole life. Do not stop now.”

On the onside kick
“I got hit hard. That's what happened. I saw the ball just had to make sure it went 10 yards so we would not get a penalty. And as I went down, I was in the pile. They were just pulling me back and yanking me. But like as a leader I just felt like I needed to do what I needed to do and make a play. And that was a play I needed to make.”

On whether it is his final year at Nebraska
“Whatever happens, honestly I just want to finish the season out with Nebraska. Be the top of the top that we can be. Finish these games out with wins and do what's best for the university first.”

On fans not having faith in the team
“I love being an underdog honestly. I love it. They give us motivation, especially as a defense. I don't know about offense, but we love it. When going to a game they are expecting to score this and that, and we just go out there and put our foot down and you know, keep stuffing.”

On ending the season with strong teams
“Yes, it does. Great teams, great teams. Just go out there. You get to play football. Like I said we have been doing this so long. Why not get out there and play against the best of the best.”
