Ben Stille
Defensive Lineman
On his injury during the Michigan game
“Nothing major. I’ll be good to play.”
On his advice for younger players on the team
“Every week is a week of its own and every day is a day of its own. That’s really the mentality that you have to have. Recovery is huge, and that's a thing that a lot of the younger guys don’t understand. Sleep in general and waking up at a time like that is important to consider. Waking up at 5:30 in the morning, feeling OK versus feeling like you’re dragging is going to make all the difference in your mindset and your mentality going into the day. Whether you’re setting yourself up for failure or not going into each day is a huge thing.”
On Nebraska's string of consecutive games
“I could care less. We can play 16 weeks straight and it's obviously going to be welcomed. It's good for any team to be able to deal out for a little bit, but that's the last thing that we care about right now.”
On the amount of sleep Stille maintains during the season
“I’m in bed by about 8 o’clock almost every night. So that puts me somewhere close to 10 hours.”
On the effect on sleep as a football player
“It was probably a little bit of an adjustment. When I was first here freshman year we were playing during the afternoon but I was still waking up for 8 a.m. class. It’s a routine like anything. We wake up at 5:30 a.m. now, but it's just a routine. You just have to make it into your schedule. It's a lifestyle and what you came here for. It's just your life.”
On the physicality of the Michigan game
“I think it was definitely just the nature of their offense. It had to be physical for the week in and the week out. The Big Ten has lots of physical games but I don't know if I could necessarily put the title of the most physical game on it. But there was definitely some hitting going on in there.”
On offensive lineman Bryce Benhart
“He’s growing into an older guy in the program so the maturity level is there. It's a part of the game when you play at this high of a level. He has high expectations of himself and he knows that he needs to be better so he’s working on that.”
On changes for the upcoming Minnesota game
“We need to change the way they were running the ball on us. We had the opportunity at the end of that game to get off the field on defense and give our offense the chance, so that's something that we have to get ready for.”
On the physicality and discipline of Minnesota
“Two years ago we went up there and definitely were not disciplined. That's been a thing for the last two years for sure. Penalties and being disciplined for sure have been an issue. I don't know if (Austin) Allen is speaking defensively versus offensively, but we know that they want to run the ball and they want to run downhill. We didn't stop that in the past two years, so you could say we’re lacking physicality if we can't stop that in the downhill run.”
On keeping his sleep schedule
“As far as being one of the older guys here and my early bedtime, Grandpa is a pretty common term around here.”
