On Monday’s practice
“Really solid day at practice. We know we needed to bounce back and have a really good Monday and start stacking days again and that is what we did today. I am proud and excited about the way the guys responded today.”
On the game against Michigan State
“Some missed opportunities. Obviously. Some plays I wish I had back. Things we addressed post game but those things are getting fixed. I cannot turn over the ball and make critical errors. And I made a couple that game.”
On starting slow
“That is something we are figuring out and something that needs to be fixed as you pointed out. We need to start faster and help our defense sooner. Maybe play ahead in the game. Something we are figuring out and need to find a way to get those guys going early and get us all going in the right direction.”
On the second half at Michigan State
“It is hard to put to what exactly but we were moving the ball in the run game. We were hitting the passes that we wanted to. We had some big plays that got the drive rolling. We obviously dominated the time of possession and a lot of those things were key for us and maybe something we need to key in on in the first half.”
On the offensive line
“I have faith in those guys. I do. They are studs. We have all the talent we need in that room. We have a great coach in Greg Austin and those guys are going to get right. Part of that is not all their fault. There are some plays I need to make. Some reads I need to do better. And it is a process and we are growing as a team and as a unit.”
On his relationship with the offensive line
“As far as game day it has to be constant. It is a simple as sitting next to them on the sideline when we come off. Just having that line of communication open. What are you seeing in pass protection? What are you seeing when we are run blocking? Spreading that communication to the running backs and making sure everyone is on the same page. In practice we are constantly pushing each other. That is just about holding each other accountable and making sure we are on the same page with all of the things I alluded to earlier.”
On dominating time of possession
“It has definitely changed over my time here and I think that is just part of the evolution of our team and our offense. It is about getting better. And I really feel confident in what we are right now and what we are doing. We are going to keep building on that and I believe our team is confident in sort of that style.”
On Northwestern
“Northwestern is going to come to play and they are going to be a team that is really well coached. They are not going to make mistakes. They know what they are doing. They are going to do their homework. We have to be ready. We have to go out there and win the game. They are not going to give it to us.”
On Coach Fitzgerald
“I don’t know if a great feel is a right word but I am confident in what we are probably going to see this week. They are going to be a really well coached team like I said they are gritty. They have been every time I have played them. They have played us really hard and it has been a good game every time. They are disciplined and have to be ready to go.”
