Huskers Head West for The Molly

The Nebraska women's golf team plays its third tournament in three weeks when the Huskers travel to Seaside, California to compete in The Molly Collegiate.

The Big Red will be part of a 15-team field in the Bay Area near Monterey. The tournament, which is co-hosted by California and Oregon State, features two other Pac-12 teams with Stanford and UCLA. In all, 10 California teams will be competing, including Cal Poly, Cal State Monterey Bay, Fresno State, Sacramento State, San Francisco, San Jose State and UC Davis. Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada and UNLV round out the field.

The Huskers will be challenged by a par-72, 6,218-yard layout at the Bayonet Golf Club. Action begins with a shotgun start on Monday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. (CT) with two rounds of continuous play. The final round is set to begin with tee times on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. (CT). Live scoring will be available from GolfStat.com.

The Huskers are coming off a remarkable performance at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational in Manhattan, Kan. (Sept. 20-21). NU's four-player "B" lineup won the 10-team tournament, as Nicole Hansen and Lindsey Thiele shared medalist honors, while true freshman Miu Takahashi added a top-five effort of her own. Nebraska's "B" team not only defeated its top-five in the "A" team, which included top-five finishers Kirsten Baete and Vanessa Bouvet, but also Kansas and Kansas State at Colbert Hills Golf Club. The "B" team became the first Nebraska team to win the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational in 11 all-time trips to the tournament. 

Hansen and Thiele shared Big Ten Co-Golfer-of-the-Week honors for their efforts.
