Huskers Claim GCAA Honors

Nebraska's Branden Meyer and Tom Westenberger were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America for their work on and off the course during the 2020-21 season.

The awards honor collegiate men's golfers who are either sophomores, juniors or seniors and compete in at least 40 percent of their team's competitive rounds, while also maintaining at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average over their careers.

Westenberger, a senior from Wuppertal, Germany, posted a 75.27 stroke average while playing all 15 rounds for Nebraska in the spring of 2021. He posted a pair of top-10 individual finishes by tying for sixth with a career-best 217 at the Aggie Invitational (April 9-11) and a tying for seventh at the Hoosier Collegiate (April 3-4). The economics major was also a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2021. A prestigious Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar, Westenberger is also a four-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.

Meyer, a senior from Gilbert, Arizona, claimed his second straight GCAA All-America Scholar award after being named Academic All-Big Ten for the first time in 2021. The four-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection was also a member of the 2021 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. During the spring of 2021, Meyer produced a 77.58 stroke average over 12 rounds for the Huskers.

With Meyer and Westenberger leading the way, Nebraska also claimed Outstanding Team Academic honors from the GCAA for producing better than a 3.0 combined cumulative GPA in 2020-21. Nebraska was one of seven Big Ten Conference men's golf programs to earn the award, joining Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern and Wisconsin.
