Huskers Earn ITA All-Academic Team Honors

Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska women's tennis team earned an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award, as ten Huskers were named ITA Scholar-Athletes after the organization announced its annual academic awards on Monday.

Juniors Samantha Alicea and Jessica Aragon, sophomores Isabel Adrover Gallego, Chloe Kuckelman and Ellie Kuckelman, and freshmen Maja Makoric and Vivien Sandberg were honored for their academic efforts in 2020-21. All will return and compete for the Huskers next season. Seniors Hayley Haakenstad, Claire Reifeis and Emma Worley were also recognized for their success in the classroom.

The Huskers were one of eleven teams in the Big Ten Conference to earn team honors as Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Rutgers and Wisconsin also received the award.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letterwinner and have a 3.50 or higher GPA (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year. To earn the All-Academic Team award, teams must have a combined GPA of 3.20 or higher.

Reifeis is a four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete while Haakenstad has been honored three times in her career. Aragon is a two-time honoree, previously winning this award in 2019.
