Big Ten Champion Autumn Haebig leads a trio of Nebraska swimmers who will be competing in Wave I of the U.S. Olympic Trials at CHI Health Center in Omaha, June 4-7.
Haebig, who captured All-America honors in both the 200 and 500-yard freestyles at the 2021 NCAA Championships, will compete in three events at the U.S. Olympic Trials, which will be held in Omaha for the fourth consecutive time dating back to their debut in 2008. Haebig claimed Nebraska's first-ever Big Ten swimming title in 2021 by winning the conference title in the 200-yard freestyle. She added a fifth-place Big Ten finish in the 500 free. She went on to a ninth-place finish in the 200 at the NCAA Championships, before adding a 14th-place showing in the 500.
The senior from Grafton, Wis., earned the No. 1 seed time in the 200-meter freestyle (2:00.55). She will be looking to claim one of the top two finishes in the 16-swimmer field in order to advance to Wave II of the trials, which will be held in Omaha, June 13-20. The top swimmers in Wave II will claim U.S. Olympic berths.
In addition to competing as the top seed in the 200-meter free, Haebig earned the No. 8 seed time among the 20 swimmers competing in the 400-meter freestyle (4:14.96) at Wave I. She added the No. 4 seed time in the 100-meter backstroke (1:01.91) but will face a 47-swimmer field in that event.
Audrey Coffey will also represent the Huskers at the U.S. Olympic Trials after posting the No. 7 seed time (16:48.76) in the 1,500-meter freestyle. Coffey, a 2022 Nebraska senior from Naperville, Ill., will compete against six other swimmers in Wave I. She placed in the top 16 at the 2021 Big Ten Championships in both the 1,650-yard free and the 500 free. Coffey was also a CSCAA All-American in the 1,650 free in 2020.
