Cheramie Honored as Conference Senior of the Year

Lincoln – Nebraska's Emily Cheramie was honored Friday, receiving a trio of honors from the Great American Rifle Conference.

Cheramie, who led the Huskers to a sixth-place finish at the at the 2021 NCAA Championships earlier this month, was selected as the GARC Senior of the Year in voting by the conference coaches, while she also collected a pair of all-conference awards.

A senior from Georgetown, Ky., Cheramie averaged a combined score average of 1,176.28 in seven conference matches during the 2020-21 season, as she topped the Huskers in average in both smallbore and air rifle. 

Cheramie was tabbed a first-team all-GARC selection in the smallbore, as she averaged a 585.29 in seven conference meets to rank fifth in the conference. It was her first career first-team selection in the event. She also chosen as a second-team combined honoree with a combined total that ranked 10th in the GARC in 2020-21. She also paced the Huskers in air rifle average with a mark of 591.00.

During her career, she earned all-conference honors in each of her four seasons at Nebraska and won the 2020 GARC smallbore title. Cheramie was unable to defend her title this season, as she missed the championship meet with an injury. She has now won six conference honors in her career (four smallbore and two combined).

Junior Kinga Aletto was Nebraska's rifle scholar-athlete of the year, as she is a three-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Holl honoree and an Academic All-Big Ten pick in 2020. Aletto, a junior from Sarasota, Fla., was also featured in Nebraska Today for her UCARE project on the Javan blue-banded kingfisher.
