The Nebraska men's cross country team climbed to No. 4 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region rankings released on Tuesday. It's the highest ranking for the Nebraska men since the regional cross country rankings were established in 2010. NU had never been ranked better than sixth entering the 2020-21 season.
The Husker men placed fifth at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships on January 30. George Kusche became the Husker's first Big Ten individual cross country champion, racing a time of 24:01.2 in the 8K to accomplish the historic feat at the Big Ten Championships in Shelbyville, Ind. In the men's 8K race, Nebraska recorded 117 points to earn the fifth-place finish. Dais Malebana followed Kusche to finish 19th with a time of 24:33.8 in his first appearance at the Big Ten Championships. The men improved on a sixth-place finish in 2019 to record the sixth straight year the team has improved in the team standings.
Kusche will compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Stillwater, Okla., on March 15. The NCAA Division I Cross Country Selection Show will be held Sunday at Noon CT on NCAA.com.
